Horsham Area Newfoundland Group: Carting Regulations

Event Organisation

• All events to be organised through Horsham Area Newfoundland Group social secretary
• Evidence of event insurance policy must be obtained before any commitment made to provide cart rides
• No cart rides to be carried out on the public highway

Equipment

• Only four-wheeled carts will be used for cart rides
• A lead/rope will always be attached to the cart to enable the handler to assist the dog as required

Rules

• All children will be weighed prior to being permitted to ride – It is recommended that no children over 25kg be permitted to ride in the cart. Children over 25kg may be given rides at the discretion of the dog’s owner.
• No novice dogs will be permitted to give cart rides to children
• All dogs giving rides must have previously been assessed at a Horsham Newfs’ event or have passed Level 2 draught test
• Handlers & Dogs will work for short periods only – time to be agreed depending on length of circuit and weather conditions
• No dog under the age of 18 months will be permitted to give rides
• First Aid kit to be taken to all events where the Horsham Area Newfoundland Group provide cart rides
• A person will be assigned to check weights, collect money and manage the queue for rides at all times.
