What a wonderful weekend. Seven families descended on the Thames Valley Boat Show at Beale Park nr. Reading for a three day water and carting display. The weather was absolutely gorgeous getting hotter as the weekend progressed. By Sunday we were all stripped off to shorts and tee shirts with the children playing in the water tray in their undies.
Let me start by telling you about Mercer’s Moat. Dear old Kev took his dog out for a walk one evening at Mepal after a few beers. To be fair it was after midnight so quite dark. As they sauntered across the field Kev suddenly found himself on his back with Loxley on top of him looking up at the stars. As he lay there he realised he was down a rather deep ditch, fortunately dry, but still quite a climb to regain the level ground. So forever more Langtoft Fen will now be known as Mercer’s Moat. Kev is still with us, he did survive the fall.
Carting tests at Bo Peep are simply the best.
We descended upon the caravan site near Banbury on Friday lunchtime in glorious sunshine with rather depleted numbers. Only the Mercers and the Leybournes from Horsham Newfs were camping that weekend with some day visitors on Saturday in the form of Mark Kingsley and Rebecca & Linda.
We were joined by our friends from other Newfie groups and quickly set to catching up on all the gossip.
A few hardy and well intentioned members of our group gathered together in Bookham for the day to undertake some extreme carting practice through the woodland.
The weather was absolutely dreadful with the rain pouring down for most of the day but as ever us Newfoundland owners made the most of it and off we set into the woods for some close quarter handling.
There was an ulterior motive for our day together which was a spot of maintenance on the boats prior to the season starting in full.
Thanks go to Kev and Ange for their continued hosting of our equipment and for letting us swarm across their property yet again.
Apologies for absence from the babysitting mums ......
