Horsham Working Newfoundlands meets most weekends through the summer at Longside Lake in Thorpe which is near Egham in Surrey and occasionally we arrange a trip to the sea.
The number of dogs at water training sessions is restricted to ensure that each dog receives adequate attention. All season ticket holders are automatically included at each session with others registering weekly on a first come first serve basis up to a maximum of 30 dogs (20 if training at sea).
The structure of the day is very informal with everyone getting involved. Having said that we do ensure a safety officer is appointed and that the safety rules for water working are adhered to. The training is broken down into 30 minute slots per dog and the content is very much down to the owner.
Because of the work involved in setting up for the day and packing away at the end of the day we expect ALL participants to commit to the entire session. The day normally starts at 10am and ends around 4pm. Pulling the boats out of the water is a pretty challenging task and we need all hands on deck to haul them out.
The facilities at our lake are non existent so come prepared to embrace nature and also come with some lunch and a hot drink.
